[GALLERY] Camino del Norte: Santillana del Mar to Llanes

Santillana del Mar to Comillas

The etapa from Santillana del Mar to Comillas was a pretty pleasant walk. I spent the entire day walking and talking with Henric, who was adjusting fairly well to his phone-less existence. The day ended in Comillas, which has a great beach and some famous Gaudí architecture. I laid out on the beach with Anja before heading into our hostel for dinner. We watched half of The Big Lebowski before getting tired and going to bed. Albergue life sure makes you appreciate small details. The Albergue in Comillas had curtains on every bunk bed. Sweet, sweet privacy!

Comillas to Unquera-Bustio

The walk to Unquera-Bustio started with a stretch by the coast before pivoting up some hills. We got to Bustio pretty early and were the first pilgrims at the albergue. The albergue in Bustio ended up being a wonderful surprise. The rooms fit two pilgrims and had private bathrooms. In the morning I opened up our window and there was a horse on the other side. It was donation-based and run by a mother and her son. A true hidden gem on the Norte.

Unquera-Bustio to Llanes

This was one of the most beautiful stages of the entire Norte. There is an option to follow the coast for a good chunk of the morning. Henric and I walked for a bit and ran into many familiar faces along the route. Pictured below is Kath, who smacked her head on a bit of cave.
